DIY Sugaring Wax + How To Use It (2 Ways)

reading time: 1 min

This post is for all my ladies (and men) who are tired of waxing, shaving or epilating. Since sugaring is less painful and less dangerous than waxing, this is a great option to get rid of your body hair in a safe and natural way.

There are two ways to use sugaring wax: with fabric and without. I am going to show you the recipe for both methods, and how to apply it.

INGREDIENTS

Soft wax (with fabric):
1 cup (200g) sugar
1/4 cup (60ml) lemon juice *
1/4 cup (60ml) water

Hard wax (without fabric):
1 cup (200g) sugar
1/8 cup (30ml) lemon juice *
1/8 cup (30ml) water

Also:
- a heat resistant jar
- a knife or spatula to apply
- optional: non-stretchy fabric strips

* Alternatively, use another type of citrus juice, or vinegar.

DIRECTIONS

Mix all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat up over medium heat. Bring to a boil for about 7 minutes. It will turn to a golden brown colour.

Pour your mixture into a heat resistant jar, and allow to sit and cool for at least 20 minutes. Test with your finger to make sure you won't burn yourself.

For the soft wax: Put a blob of sugaring wax onto a butter knife or a spatula and apply to your skin in the opposite direction of your hair growth (unlike you do with regular wax). Place a fabric strip over the wax and pull it off in the direction of your hair growth.

For the hard wax: Put a blob of sugaring wax onto a butter knife or a spatula, or just use your hands to apply it to your skin in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Flick up the "upper" end of the sugaring wax so you have something to hold onto. Allow the paste to firm up for about 20 seconds, then rip it off in the direction of hair growth.

Be sure to moisturise your legs with aloe vera, almond oil or your favourite natural moisturiser afterwards.

TIPS

Where can I use it? You can use this sugaring paste on all your body parts. including face and lady parts. Work in small sections for sensitive areas like these, and pull your skin taut to prevent bruising.

How long is the shelf live? Stored in the fridge, the sugaring paste keeps for several months. Not stored in the fridge, this will keep for about 3 weeks.

When will the hair grow back? Depending on your hair growth, your hair will grow back after about 3-4 weeks.

What if it's too hard? Simply warm the jar up in a bowl with warm water (or in the microwave), and you'll be good to go. Or heat up again with some more lemon juice.

Yay for hairy legs, haha!
