If you feel like boosting your body with vitamins and fresh juice, start your day with a frothy breakfast smoothie like this one! I try to go by the motto "eat your fruit, drink your veggies" as smoothies make it easier to get in your daily greens that you might not like eating by themselves.

The basil adds a very tasty kick to your average smoothie.

Ingredients

2 bananas (1 regular, 1 frozen)
1 orange
1 cup baby spinach
6 chlorella or spirulina pills
a handful of fresh basil
1/2 cup soy milk
1/2 cup water

No instructions for this one. Simply blend all ingredients together and enjoy :)

This smoothie is the perfect balance between sweet and tart, creamy and fresh. It is loaded with healthy beneficial greens and superfoods and at the same time gives you the sweetness of the banana to make it a delicious breakfast or snack

The good stuff:
The special ingredients in this smoothie are basil and spirulina/chlorella. Basil contains loads of flavonoids, which protect you at the cellular level, as well as volatile oils, which have anti-bacterial properties. Both spirulina and chlorella have a concentrated balance of nutrients shown to help cleanse and detoxify the body, and a high concentration of protein that supports energy and clarity. Spirulina is a green-blue algae and is the beta-carotene richest food. Beta-carotene is an important antioxidant and is suggested to be an anti-cancer food. Plus spirulina is a very good protein source, with 60% of its dry weight being protein. In fact, spirulina has been used in the World Health Organization's feeding programs for malnourished children in undeveloped countries. A single one-gram dose of spirulina a day can counteract Vitamin A deficiency that can lead to blindness. Chlorella's rich green colour comes from a high concentration of chlorophyll. Studies have shown that chlorella benefits the entire body by supporting healthy hormonal function, promoting cardiovascular health, helping to negate the effects of chemotherapy and radiation, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and aiding in the detoxification of our bodies. Chlorella's protein levels, and combination of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients and phytochemicals go one step beyond spirulina. When used in tandem, their powers intensify.

Basil and spirulina/chlorella are balanced with fresh juicy oranges and creamy plant milk. This smoothie is a real healthy vitamin bomb and a great way to start the day :)
