3 Winter to Spring Transition Outfits

reading time: 2 min

Now that the darkest winter months are finally over it's time to review our wardrobe. Since I live in Germany there are in fact four different seasons that require a wardrobe adjustment. The official beginning of spring was a couple of days ago, but it was actually still snowing two weeks ago here in Germany, so it's really a transition phase right now! One day rain, one day sunshine...

Luckily, winter and spring both share a lighter colour palette with soft, cool, neutral tones such as white and light grey now that the dark blue, rich red and shimmering gold of the festive season gives way for the pastels of spring. Enter: stripes, dots, and florals! My transitional wardrobe is also a combination of fluffy, woolly, chunky pieces with lighter, more delicate pieces.

Here are 3 outfits that incorporate my go-to clothing essentials for winter and spring.

(1) Denim & Dots

This has been one of my go-to outfit these past few weeks. An over-sized white knitted sweater on top of a chambray blouse, a pair of black skinny jeans, and my trusty winter boots. I change my boots for red wedge heels for that pop of colour, I omit the coat. Instead, I wear my chambray blouse as a more delicate alternative to a denim jacket over a polka-dotted shirt.

chambray blouse: H&M (thrifted)
knit sweater: H&M (thrifted)
skinny jeans: Yessica
winter boots: Tamaris
shirt: H&M (old)
wedge boots: Tamaris (thrifted)

(2) Rips & Stripes

For this more laid-back but sporty outfit I combine my favourite red winter coat with a long sleeved striped top, a white blouse underneath, a black felt hat on top, and slightly ripped denim jeans that still give enough warmth for those colder April days. Instead of skinny jeans, a pair of more heavily distressed boyfriend jeans would also go great with this outfit! For the lighter spring version, I ditched hat and coat, and swapped my winter boots for light sneakers.

coat: United Colors of Benetton (thrifted)
black hat: H&M (old)
skinny jeans: Vero Moda (thrifted I added the distressed knee slits)
striped top: Tally Weijl (thrifted)
white blouse: H&M (thrifted)
boots: Cliff ("inherited" from my granny)
sneakers: Nike ("inherited" from my granny)

(3) Knits & Lace

This outfit is probably the most springlike and girly of all. For this I put together a cream knit cardigan with a dainty floral lace top, baby blue skinny jeans, a knitted beanie, and black Chelsea boots. On more sunny days I omit the cardigan, put a simple white tee underneath the top, and replace beanie and boots with ballet flats and a headband.

knit cardigan: Atmosphere (thrifted)
skinny jeans: Zero (thrifted)
lace top: H&M (last year)
chelsea boots: Atmosphere (thrifted)
knit beanie: H&M (old)
shirt: ? (borrowed)
ballet flats: Graceland (old)
headband: knitted by my granny :)
