3 Summer to Fall Transition Outfits

reading time: 2 min

This blog post is inspired by Sarah's 4 Must Have Summer to Fall Transition Pieces, and also makes for a suitable sequel of my blog post on 3 Outfits for New Year's Eve and Christmas. Living in Germany, a country that is heavily effected by the seasons, you can't get away with wearing summer dresses all year long.

Now that fall has hit the northern hemisphere, it's time to get out my khaki coloured jackets, sneakers, button-ups and lumberjack shirts. For accessories, this time of the year is ideal to introduce dark florals, tights, booties, lightweight scarves, cardigans, and hats into the wardrobe. Simply mixing more autumn colours such as olive green, petrol, mustard yellow, burnt orange, dynamic red, greys and earthy browns into your outfits is also a great way to transition to the coming season.

Here is a lookbook with 3 summer to fall outfits that use your favourite summer staples in colder fall weather and incorporate them with some of the fall trends!

(1) Black & White

For summer I love to wear this combo of the Aztec style tribal shorts, my Harry Potter Deathly Hallows shirt, and some black flats. To make this wearable in fall, swap the shorts for some black skinny jeans or (pleather) leggings, ditch the sunglasses and wear a black cardigan or a casual blazer jacket on top.

shirt: Camden Market, London (similar here or here)
shorts: thrifted (similar here, here or here)
flats: Jumelles (old)
pants: H&M (old)
jacket: flame (old)

(2) Denim & Plaid

When you want to layer up your look, but it's not quite cool enough yet, adding a plaid button up is a great alternative to a jacket. Also, switch your sandals out for some comfy sneakers. I also put on the shirt wrong way round because I thought the patterns didn't mix too great – plus, I sometimes really like the look of a shirt worn inside out or wrong way round (is that weird? 😂)

boyfriend shorts: H&M (old)
shirt: Clockhouse (old)
bag: thrifted
espadrilles: borrowed from my Mom
button up: ? (thrifted)
sneakers: Nike ("inherited" from my granny)

(3) Cotton & Wool

This might just be my all time favourite summer to fall outfit. Add a cardigan or a lightweight parka to your favourite summer dress to make it appropriate for the season. Switch your flats for wedge booties or over-the-knee boots, and replace your straw hat with an Autumn wool one, and you're good to go!

dress: H&M (old)
flats: Kayla shoes (old)
straw hat: borrowed from my Mom
