Get Healthy With Me 06

reading time: 3 min

Hi there, fit friends!

Last time i wrote about the 7 types of hunger, this time i want to talk about losing progress and regaining motivation. Since my last "Get Healthy With Me" post, a few things have changed. Sadly i'm not doing my weekly yoga class any more because i was in Thailand when the registration started, so i didn't get into the yoga course :( I still do 30 minute home yoga workouts every now and then, but it's just not the same.

I also have to admit that i absolutely failed at establishing a running routine. After running 2 times in March i got sick and had to stay in bed for a week, after that i went to Thailand, spent two weeks there and ate a lot of bread (wheat), came back and was immediately preoccupied by university, my master's thesis and the internship i'm doing until mid June. So far i only managed to fit it 2 more runs, both 3 km. I know that's not a lot, and i wish i would have been able to be consistent from the beginning, but life isn't always as you want it to be, so you have to work with what you get.

Green Machine Smoothie

reading time: 1 min

Preparation time: 5 mins
Main ingredients: spinach, basil, banana
difficulty level: easy
serves: 1-2
suitable for: vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, nut-free, paleo, raw food

If you feel like boosting your body with vitamins and fresh juice, start your day with a frothy breakfast smoothie like this one! I try to go by the motto "eat your fruit, drink your veggies" as smoothies make it easier to get in your daily greens that you might not like eating by themselves.

The basil adds a very tasty kick to your average smoothie.

May Essentials /16

reading time: 3 min

I have to admit, i'm kinda off track at the moment. I'm so busy with my internship, uni, master's thesis agenda that i don't really have time for anything more time-consuming than a recipe post. For that reason i have neglected both my monthly essentials and my monthly book/movie favourites (mainly because i haven't read a single book ever since my Day Zero Project finale).

I'm not sure when i'm going to continue with the book/movie favourites, but for today i have some new essentials that have improved my everyday life:

Morning Routine 2016

reading time: 4 min

Rise and shine, my friends!

This is quite an unusual post for me, as i'm usually behind the camera, not in front - especially not while brushing my teeth and epilating (and i spent way too long in the bathroom taking pictures, whoops), but i thought it might be interesting to get a glimpse at my everyday life (which, surprisingly, does not only consist of eating vegan desserts).

Almost 2 years ago, I did a blog post on my Morning Routine, but quite a few things changed ever since then, especially since I incorporated Ayurveda into my life. While some parts of my routine are very common of course, like teeth brushing and eating breakfast, some of them, such as oil pulling, are quite uncommon.

[OUTFIT] A Spring Day

reading time: 3 min

Spring has sprung, and as much as i love the colour spectrum of autumn, the hazy winter nights, and the melon-y sweetness of summer, i think spring might be my favourite season. Everything starts to bloom and buzz, everything starts to be alive again after the winter sleep.

Sweet Rhubarb Cake (vegan)

reading time: 2 min

Preparation time: 1 hour + 30 mins refrigeration
Main ingredients: rhubarb, apple, pear, flour
difficulty level: easy
makes: 1 baking tray
suitable for: vegan, lactose-free, wheat-free, nut-free, soy-free, low-sodium

I remember those early summer days as a child when i was over at my best friend's garden where they had fresh rhubarb growing in one of their patches, and we used to take a stalk of ruby red rhubarb, dip it into sugar and eat it just like that. The sugary sweetness counterbalanced the sourness of the rhubarb, kinda like eating fizzy powder!

So when i saw the first fresh rhubarb in our supermarket, i had to get it and pair it with something sweet. Cake it was!

This cake is, believe it or not, sugar-free except for the raw cane sugar that i sprinkled on top. The sweetness comes from the pears and the applesauce (instead of pears, you could also use sweet apples or peaches), which goes wonderfully with the soft, slightly sour baked rhubarb.
It's the perfect spring & summer cake: Light, fresh, and in pretty pastel colours!

Dark Chocolate Cherry Brownies (vegan)

reading time: 2 min

Preparation time: 1 hour (+ cooling time)
Main ingredients: flour, chocolate, cherries
difficulty level: easy
makes: around 28 brownies
suitable for: vegan, lactose-free, wheat-free, nut-free, low-sodium

It feels like ages that I've made brownies! (not counting the blondie-brownies (brondies) I made last September). So it was time for another brownie session. And this time, I wanted to incorporate fruits into the batter!
