Caramelized Banana Oatmeal

I'm so full right now. My belly is filled with the warmth of freshly cooked porridge, sweet banana and cinnamon. 

All i want to do right now is curl up to my snuggly blanket and hibernate like squirrels do. Those dang cute bastards. - But instead, i'm gonna sit at out forest green kitchen table with a cup of ginger tea, and type down this recipe for you :)

Get Healthy With Me 04

Hey guys -
it's time for my new series on the blog, Get Healthy With Me. Last time i talked about the first results on my journey to get fit and healthy. But what if the progress doesn't continue? Or even worse: declines? So in Episode 04: Loving yourself i want to talk about loving yourself, no matter what.

The first step is to reflect on how important it is to love yourself - because otherwise you will feel miserable and get depressed eventually from constantly hating on yourself. For a very long time I felt the same, couldn't really stand myself, wasn't able to find a boyfriend (or commit to one), was struggling with my eating disorder, constantly doubting myself and stressing out over grades, how I looked, how I wasn't good enough. 

But that has changed!

Ever since being/coming at peace with myself (that took a whole lot of work), new opportunities have been practically flying at me from every direction, and even though I still have my obstacles and challenges every now and then, I know that I AM good enough and that I will always have my best and oldest friend with me, and that is myself :)

DIY Advent Calendar (last minute)

Whoop-whoop, another DIY coming your way :) 

This time it's a tutorial for a last minute DIY Advent Calendar for your kids, grand kids, siblings, boyfriend, girlfriend, family or friends. As part of my Day Zero Project and also because i will be in South Africa throughout most of December, including Christmas, so instead of a single present for each i crafted an advent calendar for my flatmates to share - which is a) inexpensive, b) easy to make, and c) personal and fun. 

I'm actually so excited for this post, not only because of the effort i put into it (probably a solid 24 hours altogether), but also because i made this as a surprise for my flatmates, and i can't wait to see their faces when they open the bags. I love giving presents or surprising others! (and also receiving them of course)

Also, you will be using your personalized cup (for warming tea, hot chocolate or coffee) or your bowl (for warm oatmeal, soup, cereal, casserole) a lot during winter time. Or you could make this a present for Christmas! For your mother, child, partner, grandma...

I've actually eaten Chili only twice in my life so far, and this is my first attempt to make it myself. This is more of an autumn or winter recipe, i suppose, but it's so yummy and satisfying i could eat this basically any day. And it's super simple because all you do is chop up your vegetables, cook them all together in a big pot and let it simmer until it's done. Easy peasy!

November Essentials /15

Hey guys, it's me.

Last Wednesday turned into a pretty shitty day. A group of my girls at uni had a massive intervention about an issue we were having among our group that caused me to have anxiety -.- we sort of reconciled but I felt really shaky afterwards and wasn't hungry even though I hadn't eaten anything that night - but then my boyfriend comforted me and made me eat some of the vegan gluten-free polenta pizza he had made. That calmed me down a bit. Pizza makes everything better. Right?

Also, yesterday was our monthly Saturday seminar, but instead of going there in a negative, irritated mood I went there with the mindset that I'm the one in control of my stress levels. So I took it easy. Enjoyed the almost empty streets on my way to uni, and did my best to sit back and relax.

Millet "Rice" Pudding (vegan)

Millet has become my new favourite gluten-free grain and a great alternative to rice and quinoa. 

It contains a variety of minerals and trace elements, in particular silicon, iron (7 mg per 100g millet) and magnesium, which strengthen your bones, hair, skin and nails, and is great for anaemic (mostly iron-deficient) people like me. Above that, millet does not contain gluten (which is great for me!), and therefore is easy to digest, not forming any mucus in your organism.

Classic Banana Split (raw vegan)

Quick banana split without ice cream maker

Main ingredients: banana, strawberry, vanilla, cacao

Yep, this messy heap of deliciousness is a Banana Split. My very first one actually.

There are many variations, but the classic banana split is made with scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream served in a row between a banana that is cut in half lengthwise (hence the name). In no particular order, pineapple, strawberry and chocolate sauces are spooned over the strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream. It is garnished with crushed nuts, whipped cream, and maraschino cherry.

My variation also has vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. It even has mango cubes, crushed nuts, pear, shaved chocolate and homemade dark chocolate sauce! I will probably have to make this dish again because you can barely recognize the banana split as it is completely buried in toppings, lol!

(For my next one, i want to work with raspberries, caramel sauce, shaved chocolate, caramelized bananas(!), perhaps coconut whipped cream and vanilla ice cream only.)

21 Tage Raus aus der Lustfalle Food Plan [Review]

Today's post will be a German post for once. That is because i was sent an electronic copy of a 21 Day Food Plan consisting of 79 pages of vegan, mostly gluten-free low-fat, whole food, plant-based recipes that i will review here and now.

Also, dieser Post ist ein Bericht* über den 21 Tage Raus aus der Lustfalle Food Plan, erstellt und veröffentlicht von Silke Rosenbusch, die den medizinisch-anekdotischen Blog Rohe Lust führt, den ich seit einigen Jahren schon verfolge, da mich vor allem die Erklärung der ganzen medizinischen Zusammenhänge, Fakten über B12 zum Beispiel, sehr interessieren und Silke sie schön anschaulich und nachvollziehbar darstellt.

Der Food Plan enthält 5 Frühstücke, 42 Hauptgerichte und auch 2 Kuchenrezepte für Tage, an denen man sich gezwungen sieht in der Gesellschaft mit zu essen und sich anzupassen, die jedoch nicht für jeden Tag gedacht sind. Alle Gerichte sind glutenfrei, ohne zusätzliches Fett, ohne jeglichen Zucker und ohne tierische Produkte.

Maisy ❤ October 2015

Uni has started again, and i'm back at reading academical essays and research papers. Yay. However, i am also trying to keep up my reading schedule, and i'm also writing again! And collecting ideas like a squirrel collects its nuts, partly for my personal writing projects, and partly for my up-coming master thesis next spring! Wohoo! Excited!

However, as i'm currently drowning in assignments, so please excuse my lack of time and concentration to write these reviews. I typed these down in my spare 30 minutes between lectures and appointments.
